Jean - I seem to remember a while back that there was discussion about a particularly vicious Jap Guard who would beat prisoners with a golf club. Does anyone know who he was? Information that I have now is that he was at one of the camps that my Dad was in and that Dad suffered a spinal injury at his hands.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could identify him or any of the camps he was in.
Robin - The guard you are referring to was Toyoyama Kisei, a Korean peasant drafted by the Japanese (and forced to change his name from Hong Ki-Song).
He was one of the guards of F Force, mainly at Sonkurai but also at other camps including Nikki.
He was charged as a war criminal, convicted in Singapore and sentenced to hang, that sentence was later commuted to life and he was released in 1955.
I am currently writing about his trial .....
